Long-term care union members of District 1199 New England, SEIU, will rally Thursday, June 17th at the Office of Policy and Management starting at 4:00 PM in demand of racial and economic justice and a fair contract with the state.

Caregivers made significant gains during this legislative session to overcome poverty wages and benefits by securing over $400 million in additional state funding for the services they provide. However, home care personal care attendants are still undergoing negotiations with the State of Connecticut, while group home workers and some nursing home workers are still fighting for fair contracts with their employers.

Connecticut’s long-term care workers are majority women and Black, Latino and immigrant workers. It’s time for our long-term care system to do away with poverty wages and to protect quality services for the elderly and people with disabilities.
