Monday, September 16th, the New England Health Care Employees Union, SEIU 1199NE, nursing home administrators, workers, residents, family members and policymakers held a press conference on protecting Connecticut’s nursing homes.
Nursing homes across Connecticut, such as Kimberly Hall South, Governor’s House, and Arden House are in danger of having their Medicaid reimbursement rate reduced. These reductions will force nursing homes into financial crises that may result in closure. Governor Lamont delayed the implementation of these devastating cuts so the state could further review the concerns that caregivers, patients, family members, and the community have raised. The delay in implementation means funding reductions that would have been retroactively implemented effective July 1st will now be in effect as of August 15th, pending further review of each nursing home’s process to appeal its rates.
