The five Republicans running for Governor in next Tuesday’s primary may differ on minor issues but on some big things, they agree: if elected Governor, all five would reopen our SEBAC agreement. They are united in blaming State Workers for Connecticut’s problems and insisting on lowering taxes for the wealthy and corporations by targeting our services, our pensions and our jobs. (For more detail on what they are saying, click here.)
How do we counter these direct attacks on state workers? We take courage from the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who reminded us that “OUR WEAPON IS OUR VOTE!”
Don’t let Republicans running for office divide and demonize us. Every one of them is trying to make public employees like us scapegoats for our state’s economic downturn to turn attention away from their own failed leadership and policies. That’s what happened in Wisconsin and other once solidly pro-Union states that have gone right-to-work for public employees in the last few years. (For more detail about how Wisconsin state employees were affected, click here.)
It CAN happen here—but it won’t. Not if we stay together, stay united, stay active and VOTE! VOTE! VOTE for these Union-friendly, 1199-endorsed progressive candidates for state-wide offices in next Tuesday’s primary election:
